Amelia Island is 13.5 miles long and two miles wide at its widest point covering a total of 18.2 square miles. The total population of Amelia Island is about 21,000 with a little over half living in Fernandina Beach, the island’s one incorporated city, and the remainder living on land under the jurisdiction of Nassau County. Amelia Island definitely has changes in season. The average temperature is 69.9 degrees. July and August are the hottest months with temperatures in the 90s. January is the coolest month with an average high of 63 degrees and there are occasional hard freezes (below 32 degrees for eight hours). The island gets an average annual rainfall of 51.47 inches. September is the wettest month and December is the driest.
